Before we lost some of the "Posts", I had a question for anyone who could answer it:
Can anyone tell me the difference of feet traveled by Z Fortune compared to Pyro?hh)

That's a lot of ground, thanks Jerf. Has the "Beyer#" been posted for that race yet?

This is one of the races where BEYER 's figure is meaningless. Beyer is a speed figure, and this was, quite clearly, a pace race. the object of a race is to win, not put up a high Beyer number.

Since the pace was more in line with 5 year old $2000 MDN claimers, that, too, doesn't mean a lot.

What DOES mean a lot is that stretch run, with a slow pace. That run will be in the minds of folks for a while, to be sure.

people in CA. are way too interested in "speed" figs.....now there track at SA is a "joke" with all the fake times that are being run.....

PYRO is a race you watch visually and decide what you think.....he did run his final QTR. in 22 change...so....Speed and pace and any numbers people want to come up with mean squat...it all depends on the race and its setup as to how I dedide a horse runs...

IMO-Pyro ran a very impressive race

I have to agree with Dan and jerfi. After reading some of the posts about the race, I decided to watch a replay. From last to first, and winning going away is the mark of a really good horse. There were some other good horses in the race, too.

To close with a 22 is always impressive, to me. You can be sure this one is in my notes to watch, next out. Z, also, will be one to watch. Unless that one is obviously overmatched, next out, he will be very tough.

I Agree With All Of The Above Analysis.in The Bc Juvenile War Pass Had A 7 Length Lead Entering The Stretch On A Lightning Fast Track On Bc Day.that Day They Ran 6f In 109 And Change And Pyro Still Closed In The Stretch.fast Pace/slow Pace--it Doesnt Matter---pyro Is The Real Deal And A Nice Horse.anybody Who Saw The Race Can See That Pyro Not Only Never Saw The Whip---he Was Actually Coasting At The Wire.btw--he Also Galloped Out Nicely After The Race.

true, this is why the argument of watching a race could be actually as important as seeing it on paper.

MrSanderson's point is very well taken.

I quite often watch replays when I have an interest in a race, and especially whenever I see something as obvious as this one, it does pay to remember it!

Andy Beyer Told Me >sunday Morning< That The Fig Was 90..i Had Emailed Him Sat Nite With A 111..he Explained The Folowing.

#1 The 3yr Old Filly "baffert" Trained Won The Stake Prior To Pyro's Stake And It Was Almost A Second Faster.

#2 The Early Fractions Hindered The Final Time Compared To The Fillys Time & Therefore The Figure Of 90

He Also Told Me That He Was Very Very Impressed By Pyro's Run Into Those Pedestrians Splits & Finished With A 22 2/5 Last Quarter.he Said It Was Remarkable...

Which one ran the best race, is the filly better than Pyro? Wild Again's influence is best at a mile and off tracks, AP Indy's influence is star class all the way: I have to see a two turn 1 1/8 mile, that is a mighty wall to breach.

Mr. Gestalt..

I'm not sure I understand your comment that you 'must see a 1 1/8 mile around 2 turns.'

The race was only 110 yards short of a mile and an 8th ... the horse closes like a lightning bolt, in hand, gallops out beautifully....

It seems to me that what we saw was DERBY DISTANCE here ... and full of run. Not saying that he will win the Derby, or even be in it, but you can be sure of one thing.. this horse is one that will be a player in several races, this year.

I Dont Understand Why Anybody Would Be Skeptical Or Have Any Concerns From A Handicapper Or Fans Perspective.the Horse Ran A Monster Race Against Decent Horses.i Tend To Agree With Jerfi That The Extra 1/8th Of A Mile Plays Into Pyros Strength.he Was Full Of Run Crossing The Wire And Imo He Was Far Better Then The Rest Of The Field.oh Yeah--i Bet Z Fortune In The Race.

My opinion when "Robust Regression" will effect Pyro, 126#s, distance, and a 45- 1:10 pace scenario will reveal if he can match up to track records, rigors of racing, and running with another as good as he is. The Beyer number is good enough for me.

I Am Not Saying That Pyro Will Win The Derby---but If We All Remember Correctly All The Experts Said The Same Thing About Curlin.

Hard Spun Has Too Much Speed Up Front
Street Sense Is Very Tactical
Tiago Is Such A Strong Closer

And We All Know What Curlin Did To All Of Them.
It Is Yet To Be Determined How Good This Horse Is, But For Now
Throw The Beyer Out The Window With Those Fractions And Keep A Close Eye On His Progress.

tro( JUST A REMINDER FROM YOURS TRULY>PYRO HANDLED CURLIN UNDER WRAPS WHEN THEY WENT 6f in company in 1:13 galloping.i like to see any other 3yr old in the USA do the same thing that PYRO did when working with CURLIN...END OF THAT STORYtro(

Delta,
Any good 3yo can get 1:13 in wraps, it proves nothing. Heck, just about everybody in that race was under wraps for 6f.bf.

Regardless of the pace on Saturday, he was a winner. I understand all the skeptics, this sport is probably tops out of all sports to find skepticism, but he would have rallied past them no matter. Perhaps as ground is added and the rigors of the TC Trail hit him, Pyro may lose his efficacy. But I really don't think so, I think he is a force to be reckoned with.

What A Great Effort For A Garbage Collector. See How You Usually Put Your Foot In Your Mouth And Then Do A 360.

You should really brush up on reading what I wrote, I admitted my wrong immediately after the race. I had an opinion and I was wrong and admitted it. You're just looking to pick a fight with someone who already put you in your place. Also, its a 180 I think Jordan.
