Fusaichi Pegasus -- everyone thought he was a can't miss sire prospect, but he has hardly even thrown a good horse. Has been a total flop as a sire. When I see Fu Peg babies, I generally know A.) the public is going to bet on them and B.) I'm not

If I tell you its going to be great. And you pay $100,000 for it. And it turns out to be average are below average. I still have your $100,000. My job is done.

When Arthur Hancock first saw Fusaichi Pegasus not long after his birth at Stone Farm, he called him ‘super man’. Nothing that “FuPeg” has done since then has discredited that assessment. As a yearling, he sold for $4 million at the Keeneland July Sale. The following spring, he was wearing a garland of roses in the winners circle at the Kentucky Derby, the only son of the legendary stallion Mr. Prospector to accomplish that feat. Because of his looks, female family (his dam is a sister to 1992 Preakness winner Pine Bluff) and his race record, he became one of the most sought after stallion prospects of all time. Ashford Stud secured the services of Fusaichi Pegasus for a reported $70 million and, based on the early returns, that investment seems justified. His first crop are juveniles of 2004 and he ranks among the top three first crop sires. He has already sired four stakes winners including the multiple graded winner Roman Ruler.

fair enough..... let's just see where all the big timers take their mares. I guarantee you it wont be to Fu Peg. Totally a disappointment overall. If you take all of those brillant mares to a modest sire like Lord Carson, you would have just as good or better runners. Watch the stud fee drop.... year-by-year....

I think part of the issues with FuPeg is he was/is so high-strung that some might be scared off of him. his babies are also high-strung thus far...I think it is too early to decide if he will be a disappointment though

I do agree FuPeg was hyped as much or more than many many horses

for once we agree on something... With the mares he has received, his offspring haven't performed at all. Like I was saying before, I think you could take any $5K sire out of any state (ie Lord Carson), breed those mares to him, and the babies would be as good or better.

In 2002 Fusaichi Pegasus covered 191 mares resulting in 110 live foals.
If they keep it up they'll recover the 70 million purchase price in 2010.

Don't blame a stallion for not succeeding at stud. Blame the studmaster.

****This means nothing to me as a handicapper other than the fact that those $900k purchase prices in the form guarantee an unfair 'off odds.' Good for Stone Farm or Claiborne and the rich man from Japan.

****Red Bullet dominated him and Aptitude was as good if not better at 1.25+.
****Looks like a sprint sire if anything; and it's very improbable that he'll ever consistently throw contenders for any classic races.

If it means nothing. Don't bet on one to win a classic race. Funny, people said the samething about Mr. Prospector. Impeachment won over $350,000. :)

and I would guess out of the top 150 or so rates mares in the last five years or so, Fu Peg has been given the most chances to breed.... All I can say is I see racing daily and keep up with pedigree specifically and he is a flat-out bust. Wait till he starts getting lower-tiered mares: you'll see. Just give it another 5 years.

But thats just MO.

Lets talk about hype. Big Brown has won four races and th offers for stud are pouring in. If he does win the crown. The history of tc winners as super sire is very poor. Citation, Secretariat as examples.

Mancini, 4 Starts, 0 Wins, 0 Places, 1 Shows Career Earnings: $7,140
Being by Mr.P and a 1/2 to Unbridled Song will fool a few. But you need female power for this guy. bh)

And because his stud fee is so low, he gets, at best, mediocre mares.
