I usually don't play the superfecta. That was until the 10 cent bet came out.
I'm pretty sure that almost 80% of the race winners come from the top 5 choices in post time odds.
My superfecta strategy is that I use the top 3 choices at or around post time( 3 favorites). I use them for the first and second leg of the bet. I use the next 3 horses being bet for the 3rd and 4th leg of my bet.
My bet will look like this 123/123/456/456 which costs $3.60 for a 10 cent wager which isn't bad when you're on a limited budget like me.
I caught a $100 payout and a $70 one so far.
I haven't charted any races to see how it's doing over all but with my winnings so far, I'm satisfied.
Hope this little insight helps.
Good luck!!

I usually terrible w/ trifectas and above, but for that price and that strategy I'll give it a try.

My problem with superfectas is that I don't seem to play them at the right time. One example was a 4.5f baby race at Churchill during their last meet. I had 3 huge longshots and a heavy favorite breaking from the far outside. I bet the 3 longshots to win. Granted I pulled down the 30-1 which went wire to wire, but the other two longshots came second and third, with the heavy favorite fininishing fouth, for a super that paid over 15g.
I do however have a pretty good play for exactas which is extremely profitable on a miniscule budget like mine.
If you have have "sure thing" (or perhaps two in small to mid size field), and its not the favorite, key the horse on top of as many longshots as you can afford to cover. You'd be suprised as to how often you hit these exactas on about $3-$5 or so, and how often they pay at least $30 or more for a $1 exacta. I hit the Derby trial with this method(The baffert horse "Record") with the 60-1 that came second, the exacta paid just over $200. There's also a "pyramid" type system that is cheap and can be used with tris and supers, but I haven't had quite as much sucess with it and I seem to be the only one who seems to think it's easy to use.
Anyways, good luck

A superfecta is picking the top 4 finishers in a single race.
