Well Lukas is doing it again. We all know Lukas has a reputation of pushing young horses too hard, breaking them down, etc.. etc.. I'm not even going there today... This is more about distance limitations. Flying First Class has proven to be a crack sprinter already; his ability in sprinting seems endless... In fact, if he took a non-Lukas trail into the BC Sprint this year, I would be interested in using him, the talent is that obvious. However, Mr. Lukas has decided to "Lukas him," as I like to say. Meaning that Wayne has decided to not once, or twice, but now thrice run FFC at a distance far beyond his grasp. One could even argue the reason for this is that Mr. Lukas can see Mr. Lukas' name in the paper once again, and the TV sets will be saying "D Wayne Lukas" again. I don't know, maybe its the owners choice. I doubt it.

Lukas is "lukasing" another horse with immense talent in a race he doesn't belong far beyond its limitations, and why? Tell me. I would like to know.:o
I hope FFC makes it through the race OK and doesn't overextend.

Agree. The horse probably does not belong in this race. A mile is about his limit and that may be a stretch. My hope is that FFC will set or push the speed on the front and allow Street Sense and CQ to make their moves and motor on by.

As far as Lukas, old soldiers never die, they just fade away......but not always graciously! Never cared much for his tactics with young horses.

alot will depend on any track bias there might be and the make up of the race.

how much damage ffc does to hard spun, if any, seems to me to be most salient question. then, will calvin be able to to get a rail spot. if he can't, still may not matter: ss will put in a monster bid for the win. if hard spun rates/rolls by ffc, still must fend off curlin at some point--i expect curlin to run better--then hold off ss and cq; would be awesome display and i think he has it in him.

lukas lukasing is fun to watch and think about. put him in the belmont too. maybe he'll end up like swizzle stick and i can claim him and run him at CT at 4.5 for the next 8 years. tro(

20-1 Flying First Class deserves consideration, has a 107 Beyer, made a big middle move in Ark. Derby, demolished field in Derby Trial, has some pedigree power, gets Guidry(on his farewell tour), can control race and pace, and D. Wayne has won the Preakness 5 times!

107 was @ 6 f.; not sure beyer for trial but that is one-turn-mile-sprint; a 4th in the preakness is victory.

Lukas has a need for the spotlight. Trying to drum up new business. It's a shame he sacrifices young talent, but that's part of the game if you are trying to market yourself.

he deserves consideration to affect the race with his speed. Finished last, beaten 30 lengths but might have hurt Hard Spun's chances to hold on with the :45 and change pace. Its as simple as this: some horses are sprinters and some are routers> it was obvious to everyone which this horse was< yet he still ran?

had curlin not stumbled would he have been up along this wicked pace? and if so, does he contain street sense's momentum?

Appears FFC has distance limitations. I didn't anticipate suicide mission by Xchanger. Maybe Mark Shuman wanted to give Street Sense shot at triple crown. I never trust trainers who win at 40% clips. Poor Hard Spun got toasted too. Still one of the best races I've seen.
