For the life of me I can’t seem to find a British connection on any of the horses, jockeys, trainers or owners in the Derby. I wonder who the Queen is betting on. Do you think she is coming here for a particular horse or she just happened to be in the neighborhood and likes horse racing and decided to take in the Derby? Maybe there is a British horse in another race on Derby Day. Really doesn’t matter I’m just trying to explore all possible angles.

I would guess that there is no other reason for her attending the KY Derby other than the fact that she is a racing fan....her mother was an even bigger fan (had the British racing form delivered daily). Prince Charles years ago rode in steeplechase races, much to his family's dismay!

Can't recall her ever owning a runner in the race - she may have bred one. Bold Arrangement ran 3rd to Ferdinand in 1986, but that wasn't her horse. She regularly has runners in Gr.1 races in Europe, and she goes to racing at Ascot mid-June each year....

She will enjoy Churchill I'm sure....hope she takes it easy on the mint juleps though....could get messy otherwise....

I say ol' chap, aren't those ponies running the wrong way? Will opt for a spot of tea, rather than the juleps.

Do you think she plays chalk or longshots?

I think the Queen likes “Storm in May” which means I think she plays long shots. Plus there have been a lot of good one-eyed horses and the Queen has a soft spot for him. I would look for her to play “Presidential Date”, “Normandy Queen”, and “Saint Anddan” in some of the early races. I can bet you one thing for sure is that the Queen will have the best hat. I don’t see how she can’t be the favorite if you could bet on the best hat. After 27 years of betting on my man from Maryland, Mr. Mario, I’m sticking with Hard Spun. He’s got the speed if Pino can make it last and the snowman post should help him out.

This baby is wide open!!! Will Pletcher get his first? Will Carl or Barclay get their 2nd? Is Curlin for real? Could it be the preverbal"Dark Horse"? It could be like the last lap in a NASCAR Race after a caution and 6 or 8 of them could wipe out and whoever is behind enough and still have room to drive will pick up the pieces. Quote from someone I can't remember "When in doubt let your horse do the thinking". I think there will almost definitely for sure be a picture for more then one of the first four places.

On the Queen being in town,, she came in for the Williamsburg/Jamestown 400 year celebration. She might as well stick around for the Derby, its has to be a good way to end her visit across the pond. hh)

Don't sit behind her, the hat will block every call in the race. I love her, she is good for racing. Trackwinners will have the major players, pay attention folks. Churchill knows how to pick your pockets, bet wisely.

Patrons at Churchill Downs hope for glimpse of Queen at Derby

The Associated Press
Published: May 4, 2007

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky: Britain's Queen Elizabeth II, an avid horse racing fan, arrived in Kentucky Friday to attend her first Kentucky Derby.
Churchill Downs race track, accustomed to treating athletes, actors and other celebrities like royalty, prepared to play host to the 81-year-old British monarch for the 133rd Kentucky Derby on Saturday. Her sister, Princess Margaret, attended the race in 1974.
"Queen Elizabeth is certainly the most prestigious guest we've entertained in the modern-day history of the Kentucky Derby," said track President Steve Sexton.
A British Airways 777 jet carrying the queen and her husband, Prince Philip, touched down at 5:42 p.m. EDT (2142 GMT) at Blue Grass Airport in Lexington, Kentucky.
The queen, wearing a lavender overcoat over a light blue and white dress, was greeted by Blue Grass Airport director Michael Gobb, his wife, Kristina, and their 9-year-old daughter, Kirsten, who presented the queen with a bouquet of pink and white roses.
Also there to greet the queen was former British ambassador Will Farish, who owns Lane's End Farm in central Kentucky and provided Derby tickets for the queen.
The queen and her husband then got into one of two black Chevy suburbans and left the airport in a police motorcade. Airport officials said they did not know the queen's destination, but she has stayed at Lane's End during previous trips to Kentucky.
The couple will visit the historic Churchill Downs track as part of a six-day trip to the United States that also includes visits to Virginia and Washington, D.C.
From a dining room in the track's clubhouse, the queen will have a good view of the finish line.
To prepare for the royal visit, a number of track workers took etiquette lessons and the lead chef planned a sumptuous meal featuring a variety of Kentucky ingredients.
The race at Churchill Downs was the queen's only public appearance scheduled in Kentucky.

Borel to Join President, Queen at White House Dinner

Date Posted: May 6, 2007

Jockey Calvin Borel’s victory aboard James Tafel’s Street Sense in the 133rd running of the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) was his first in the Run for the Roses, and now that special moment at Churchill Downs will take the Louisiana native to a White House state dinner in honor of Queen Elizabeth II of England.

Borel’s agent, Jerry Hissam, said May 6 that White House social secretary Amy Zantzinger had invited Borel and his fiancé Lisa Funk to travel to Washington, D.C. May 7 for the dinner hosted by President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush in honor of the queen and her husband, Prince Philip.

Britain’s royal couple was on hand at Churchill Downs when Borel guided Street Sense from 19th in a 20-horse field to win the $2 million Kentucky Derby by 2 1/4 lengths. It was the first Derby victory in five attempts for the 40-year-old native of St. Martinville, La.

Although the dinner is the sixth state dinner of the Bush Administration, it is the administration’s first white-tie affair. A total of 134 guests will attend the dinner in the State Dining Room on the State Floor of the White House, which follows a reception in the East Room of the State Floor.

Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip are scheduled to end their six-day visit to the United States and return home after the dinner.
