Above is the link to calculate racing mule speed rating. You will note that even mules get every runners' finish times recorded every time they race!

I agee with you Ken, it's high time that we get the exact finishing time for each horse in a race! If it can be done for mule races then why not for thoroughbreds? To say a horse lost by 3 lengths doesn't tell me much. Whats a length anyway? How do they measure the distance by which a horse lost? If we had the exact times we wouldn't have this inane debate if 1/5 of a second = one length, we would know each horses time. But don't expect this technology at your local track anytime soon in this industry everything moves slower than those mules.

If you go to Equibase "full charts" right now, Will Rogers Downs and Los Alamitos (and Sam Houston when running), and probably others who have Tbred races and QTRhorse races on the same card and same day, quarterhorse races are timed for every runner, but thoroughbred races only the winner''s time is "possible?" to record. At the CA fairs, mules and Qtrs are indiviually timed but Tbreds onlyh the winner. It is not gate placement, and there are morning workout clockers who can time 5 horses on 1 stopwatch.
I can find no track or state rules to demand this is done. I never got an answer from NTRA but I have an email out to AQHQ asking why.
The only difference I know of is Tbred records do not automatically include Speed Ratings; Maybe the others require that somewhere in their rules.
(FYI- some quarterhorse races are 860 yds- some Tbred races 4 1/2f, which is 990 yds; now some Tbred 2f races are shorter than QTRhorse races!).
