Pletcher breakes the ice and finally wins a Triple Crown Race.
This horse has all the attributes of a great one, and Jojn V fits him like a glove.
Try and beat him, you wont!!!!!!

i must agree with you my wise man partner. even though his 100 beyer last year was one of the top numbers for a 2 year old,he is out of distorted humor--he needs to run against some top comp before i let monmouth put him in the record books.

If he fails to win the Derby his name will be immediately changed to:

"Any Given Saturday Except The First One In May"

Will Any Given Saturday beat Street Sense in the Tampa Derby, probably. Will AGS beat SS in the KY Derby, my guess/bet would be no.

At this point I like his chances. He didn't seem to be fit or cranked up in the Sammy Davis Stakes. The Sammy Davis was junk - but he may continue to improve. His lone loss was gutsy and he was hung wide. Pletcher will win one sooner or later - his stock is too good not to.

There is an outside chance SS will run in an allowance race next week at GP, having already raced 5 times as a 2 yr.old in some of the top races so the graded earnings is not required, just a tune up.If he does run in the TB Derby doubt he will be fully cranked for that one.The Blue Grass will be the telling sign.AGS looks like the one to beat imho.

I DON'T SUPPOSE MANY PEOPLE KNEW WHAT I KNEW>>9 DAYS AGO STREET SENSE WORK 5/8 IN 1:01h so the drf showed,BUT WHAT HE DID WAS THE FOLLOWING>HE WENT THE FIRST 1/4 IN 26 THE 1/2 IN 51 THE THIRD 1/4 IN 22 2/5 & GALLOPED OUT IN 1:26 FOR 7F UNDER A STRONG HOLD...CARL HAD AN ALLOWANCE RACE AT GULF PICKED OUT FOR HIM BUT RIGHT AFTER THE WORK HE COMMITED TO TAMPA BAY..hh) $)

Both of these horses are for real. Possibly the beginning of the next Affirmed/Alydar, Easy Goer/Sunday Silence? I think they both could hit the board on Derby Day, but it's hard to imagine Nobiz, Scat Daddy, Circular Quay, Notional, and Great Hunter throwing in clunkers. Something's gotta give! gah; It's a good group. Don't be surprised is SS doesn't run well in the Blue Grass. Not sure if he likes the Poly too well?

When two horses set a track record and are less than a silly millimeter apart ... they are both for real, for sure.

Great point Jerfi - not only that, they were both galloping out strong after the wire. The only concern I might have with AGS is the fact he never did get pass SS on the gallop out. There are really no soft spots left to run AGS, but I would pass on the Blue Grass in favor of the Ill. Derby. I just believe that Saturdays race took more out of him than SS. IMO

Saturdays race was a great race and great definition of contrasting styles. Any Given Saturday is a stalk and pounce runner, and Street Sense is a one run closer. The Bennett runner moving fairly quickly while being pressed along the front end along with a smallish field allowed both SS and AGS to fire their best shot. A nose seperated the two. What was the nose difference. BO REL (bo rail), this time it worked. SS and Calvin are made for each other.

YOU HAVE JUST BEEN CALVINIZED

SS got a perfect trip, I could not believe that he got through on the rail past the 3. Give Borel credit. But, Johnny V. rode a stinker and that helped too.

It was a great race. They are both nice horses. Hopefully, the derby will be as exciting.

I too believe that SS got the perfect trip. If he would not have gotten this, the out come would of been different. AGS would of been the VICTOR!! I think these two have raced or at least showed that they do belong in the big race in May. John

I've watched the race "Over n Over". Johnny V could have made the same decision to go on the rail, but DIDN'T. I guess the next time, he won't be gawking around waiting for the next challenge. SS showed his agility by being able to "Shoot the Gap". Calvin had SS moving quickly without urging. What you can't see because of the TV angle is, when the rail opened up - SS - shot right thru. SS reminds me a lot of Sunday Silence, what a coincidence, they have the same initials.
When I'm wrong I say so - Calvin Borel fits this horse like a glove. It was clear at the start of the race. SS outbroke the field and CB was able to get him to relax immediately. As most of you know, a fresh horse will be aggressive thru-out a race when they break that sharp. I was very impressed.a:

Any Given Saturday ran the better race, but Street Sense won. The difference between the rail and four path on the far turn at Tampa usually translates to about 5-6 lengths and the horses were separated by 3 inches at the wire.

Again, if only to prove a point. As written by a far better analizer of horse racing than anyone of us. "Steve Haskin-DRF" wrote - winners had been coming from the 3-4 path all day. SS was the only horse to win coming up the rail. That's probably why it was left open for him. If SS was going to beat them, he was going to have to do it in deeper part of the track.bf.
