...... About two months ago I was picking up my pony "Oops" from the University of Florida,Gainesville Large Animal Hospital....he had a procedure performed (rhinoplasty) nose job to correct an injury he got from another pony....As I went to get him I noticed some construction going on and asked about it...Turns out George Steinbrenner made a donation to the University for an MRI unit.......As Ocala is not to far down the road..this is a greatly needed tool in diagnosing tendon and ligament injurys in horses There are probably less than a handful of these units in the United States which can do large animals.
As a horse owner and racing fan I just want to let you know he makes a difference. Many people also do not know of his generous donation to the Nuclear Medicine Department many years ago....As an MRI tech having worked at Disneys Animal Kingdom ,I know the importance of a non invasive exam which can help so many animals that can't speak and tell of their problems...this tool is instrumental in helping so many large animals with problems.
I applaud Mr. Steinbrenner for his gift and the University of Florida for there continuing efforts to improve health care for the horses and large animals, and its abilityto help animals in the Sport of Kings...Thanks Rudy

SA told me they have diagnostic equipment, but I think all circuits need a mobile vet van available for all horses with MRI, Ultrasound, and cardiac monitor at least.FL does really make a "circuit, but do any of their tracks have those as basics?

Ken I'm fairly certain Tampa Bay Downs has mobile x-ray services available ? the vet may have ultrasound and heart monitoring. Ultrasound can be expensive, and medically for horses used primarily to check on newborns or to check blood vessels, and I suppose ligaments and joints for fluid..Heart monitors aren't too expensive and would be useful in diagnostics for cardiac arrythmias...

My idea came from reading AAEP leg diagnostic articles and checking out the UF van online. Every horse at every track needs to be checked once in a while, not just Afleet Alex types.
Horses are just like people- the poorer ones do not get checked out often or thoroughly enough.
