One of my favorite angle plays is to look at the leading owners stats in the program, This tells me that certain owners know how to read the conditions book & put their horses where they can win.

Smart man. How obvious is this. So simple it is brilliant. I love the owner angle. Some will go 100% early in the meet. Ask most players who the hot owners are and they look at you with that blank stare! The owner has the most to win or lose in this game. I like siding with the one who has the most at stake. It is a much better strategy then listening to those knowledgable handicappers on TVG!

I'm not disagreeing, and I'll be the first to admit I'm only guessing, but I've always thought the trainers picked the races for the horses. Maybe it varies by owner and trainer?

Yes it varies, but many owners are very shall we say pro-active and study those conditions. Many owners stay alert to the fact that the trainer has many horses in his/her barn and want to make sure that their horse gets the condition first call. But the trainers come back with their horse has a fever, not sharp, had a stall injury if they are dishonest. I am babbling own while I sweat out the Santa Anita pic 6..

So Leo--(Love ya Leo)--is of the belief that more owners inter act than don't. He just may be right. Good point Leo. I will be watching Higgins from now on.

Of course the leading owners are a good angle. How did they get to be leading owners? They WON - consistently and often. tu? Isn't that what we are trying to do?

Good luck to all -

When it comes to their barn or horse, what % of owners and what % of trainers would you say read their horse's past performance in the DRF or elsewhere? Thanks!

Steve , You seem to have been better than average as an owner in the game...do you have any stats on win% or off the claim wins as an owner??
thanks Rudy

is there a website that shows a list of leading owners per track?

As the late trainer Joe Manzi use to say "the most dangerous thing in the world, is an owner with a condition book in his back pocket." Take that for what it's worth.

Rudy, Wish I did have those stats, but I don't know where they exist?

Some individual tracks show owner wins.
How about trainers that are part owner? More connection betting? more pushing of the horse?

Certain owner-jockey combinations in my experience do not get overlooked at the lower-tier tracks and are often a stone cold lock. The trick is finding a decent price. Also uncoupled entries present a problem for me. I start out-thinking myself. I figure one of these entries the owner has to believe has no shot that day.

I found a list of leading owners on equibase.com.
The list was not divided by track.
I marked down the top 6 and will check the list weekly.
Of the six, there were 3 of their horses that ran today.
2 ran at Aqueduct and won paying $7.40 and $9.00.
The other's ran 2nd at Santa Anita losing to a $39 horse.
The list I have is as follows:
1-Robert Cole Jr.
2-Robert D Bone
3-Darley Stable
4-Stronach Stable
5-Danny J Chen
6-Maggi Moss

I only checked the races run today at Aqueduct, Gulfstream and Santa Anita.
If I find any running for Monday's card, I'll post before post times tomorrow.
Good luck!!

Just did a quick check of tomorrow's entries and come up with 4 possible runners.
Stronach sends out 2 at Gulfstream:
RACE4-Spun Sugar
RACE6-Wedded Woman

Robert Cole Jr has one at Gulfstream running in the 7th race called Club Hopper.

Robert D Bone has one scheduled at Turf Paradise in the 8th race called Native Approval.

Good luck !!

Stronach won with both of his, one was the heavy favorite and the other paid a hefty $58.50 at OTB.
The other Gulfstream horse ran 2nd.
Waiting for the Turf Paradise one to run.
So far, from 6 entries, i have 4 wins and 2 seconds and a nice profit with the $58 horse.
Good luck!!

That list isn't in any kind of order so try this. Take the list and cut/paste it to excel, it does so very nicely. Take the top 5 winning %'s, and the top 5 in the $ %'s and combine their stats. Bet on them, you will have 9 owners, 2 of which that are awesome, Wayne Bearden and Rose City Racing whose stats show greater than a 90% in the money, and a 55%+ winning %. Very awesome IMO.

This angle, over the course of a month roughly, has profited about 80-90% ROI, and has proved to be one worth watching to me. Claiming races are not that great and if took them off I would be at a 110% ROI but with a lower payout per hit.

Bets are Win only to 1/1 to 4/1, Win/Place 9/2 to 6/1, WPS 7/1 to 10/1, PS 11/1 to 20/1, and Show 20/1+

Easy as that, saw you may have gotten a little bored with it, and granted there are very few races, Maggi Moss, Elaine Grosse and others have a bunch of runs but they are not in the top 5 on either category right now. If you get bored add a few more, i.e., say the top 10 instead, or top 25 etc., more bets will come with watching for more owners. I just wished I could put them in a virtual stable, but I haven't found one for owners yet.

Goodluck and thanks to all for pointing this out/working on it. I just thought I would elaborate a little more.
