CAMBIOCORSA GETS GOLD IN OLYMPIC DREAM
ARCADIA, Calif. (Feb. 15, 2006)—Cambiocorsa, under Jon
Court, scampered gate to wire to take today’s $72,682 Olympic Dream
for fillies and mares at 6 ½ furlongs on turf, registering her
fourth win in a row. A bona fide course specialist, Cambiocorsa is
now a perfect five for five over Santa Anita’s unique hillside turf
course. The even money favorite, Cambiocorsa won by 4 ¾ lengths and
got the distance in 1:12.02.
“She loves it, she absolutely loves it,” said Court. “I
really believe in her mind, she owns that hill and (trainer) Doug
(O’Neill) has just done an exceptional job with her. She continues
to peak when it counts.”
Cambiocorsa, a 4-year-old California bred filly by
Avenue of Flags who is owned by Leatherman Racing LLC., now has five
wins from 10 starts and with the winner’s share of $46,020, in
today’s Olympic Dream, her earnings stand at $212,480.
O’Neill credits Cambiocorsa’s speed and tractability as
key factors in her hillside dominance. “They seem to get tired
chasing her and I don’t know what it is, but she seems to thrive on
that right hand turn up there. The configuration of this course is
just made for her.”
O’Neill indicated Cambiocorsa’s next start would again
be on the hillside, in the March 17, Irish O’Brien Stakes.
IM A BIG BELIEVER IN HORSES FOR A PARTICULAR COURSE OR A PARTICULAR DISTANCE. I READ THE DIRTYMOPOSSE THREAD AND IT MADE ME THINK HOW IMPORTANT VERY SPECIFIC DISTANCES AND TRACK AFFINITY OF HORSES ARE INTO THE HANIDICAPPING PROCESS. SOME HORSES TRULY ARE JUST NOT THE SAME AWAY FROM CERTAIN DISTANCES AND TRACKS. FOR EXAMPLE, SIGHTSEEK WAS TOTALLY UNBEATABLE AT BELMONT AT THAT ONE TURN 1 1/8 MILE DISTANCE.
JUST WANTED TO HEAR HOW U GUYS RATE THIS TENDENCY; I REALLY PUT IT HIGH ON THE LIST. I SEE IMPERIALISM AS A ONE TURN SPRINTER, PERHAPS A MILER.. MULHALL AND CO. CONTINUE TO ASK HIM TO GET THAT EXTRA DISTANCE, JUST NOT AS EFFECTIVE.....

Horses for courses can be a great angle no question.Just look at 2 saraoga titans, quick call and foutstardave both invincible at the graveyard of favorites.Kings swan became godzilla at the big a.Whenthedoveflies is virtually unbeatable at tampa going five eighths. There are endless examples of this interesting phenomenon.

Dont Get Mad At Churchill Eats It Up.... Ellis Should Just Race Him At The Spires!!!
Mr. Sanderson, I to beleive in horses for courses and distances...This seems to be most effective when a track is starting a new meet...Horses which have raced on that surface before seem to hold an advantage..The others or unfamiliar horses seem to need a race or two....One immediate example is a horse named Above the Wind which I have mentioned before...his best racing comes at Tampa Bay Downs...the past few years he has shipped in from Great Lake Downs...and has won as a non favorite..His last race was poor as he faced Sir Shackleton...but he fits the category of horse for courses and won at first asking at a decent price..............

Sightseek was sensational at Belmont in the one-turn routes but couldn't get to Azeri early at two turns. That was Frankel v. Desourex/Lukas (Azeri was a freak).

Yes, I too am a believer that horses favor certain surfaces and after a return to that surface they run their hearts out.
When I see a horse that has shown ability at only one particular track I always include them in any wager I make. I particularly like those who are returning from a track where they did not run well. The secret is to watch the works! If the horse is running through all his works from the other track then jump aboard. He will run when entered. Improved works are often the give away that this athlete is happy to be back. This is a very strong angle.

Try the Tin Man coming up in the Santa Anita San Luis Opisbo Handicap the 26thof feb. He came back to win the same course (turf only) after an 18 mo. layoff. the tin man won the same course twice Jan 6 and Dec 5 both stake races! What do you guys think. I myself have won over $700 on the tin man. Is the tin man due for a third? The turf distance 1 1/2mile same race wins---- 17april 03 /28Jan 06 and 28Dec 05 WOOOOOW

another example would be Miracle Man who won the 10th race at Gulfstream today.
Last year this horse won a 6F race off a layoff with the same jockey.
Same scenario, same results.
Hope to see him next yearpty

...last Friday at Hollywood.. she cleared off a good field, and unlike her last mile attempts at Hollywood, she relaxed beautifully under Court through :24.1 opening quarter. I didn't think she could get the mile... after I saw her running easy alone on cruise control, I knew I was screwed.. Only a jerk like me would play against a horse the he started a Thread for. Never Again.
This filly is fun to watch...... Cambiocorsa!!hh) 8 in a row

... she ran into Dance in the Mood in the Cash Call Mile.. she can't beat a mare of that quality at that distance..... get her little butt back on the hill.. SHE'LL BE BACK$)
Noticed her on the top 100 on equibasr- that is one fine horse!

She's really got a motor for around 6.5 or 7 f's.... as honest as they come.... but against the best, she doesn't hold up much longer than that.... bf.

With more and more tracks changing over to a synthetic surface will affect the horse for Course angle

Opening day, she's back on the hill. Johnny's on her. Get ur dun, Cambiocorsa.
Wednesday's Sen. Ken Maddy H. marks the return of the brilliant CAMBIOCORSA (Avenue of Flags), who boasts a perfect seven-for-seven mark over the downhill turf course. The last time the Doug O'Neill trainee raced over this course and distance, she captured the Las Cienegas H. (G3) in April. Cambiocorsa then successfully stretched out to a mile in the May 26 Wishing Well S. at Hollywood Park, but her winning skein was snapped when she faded to fifth in the Cash Call Mile Invitational S. (G3) at that same venue on July 1. She's been freshened since, and the four-year-old gray signaled her readiness for this engagement with a bullet six-furlong drill in 1:13 2/5 last Wednesday. Regular rider Jon Court will guide the speedster from post 11.
Although Cambiocorsa towers over the other 13 distaffers, she must shoulder the top weight of 122 pounds, spotting her rivals between six and 12 pounds. Other logical contenders include dual Grade 3-winning sophomore BETTARUN FAST (Kelly Kip) from the Vladimir Cerin barn and stakes victresses SANDRA'S ROSE (Old Trieste), STRONG FAITH (Pioneering) and PRIVATE BANKING (Fr) (Anabaa).
Leading the post parade will be Bettarun Fast beneath her 115-pound impost that includes jockey Aaron Gryder. Next will come TIZ A GEM (Cee's Tizzy), Michael Baze, 110; Sandra's Rose, Martin Pedroza, 116; CONVEYOR'S ANGEL (Conveyor), Saul Arias, 115; Strong Faith, Norberto Arroyo Jr., 116; Private Banking, Alex Solis, 115; REVEALED (Old Trieste), David Flores, 115; TOUPIE (GB) (Intikhab), Victor Espinoza, 115; HELLO LUCKY (Lucky Lionel), David Cohen, 115; WILD STORM (Chi) (Hussonet), Corey Nakatani, 116; Cambiocorsa; WEE BIT FANCY (Dominique's Cat), Clinton Potts, 110; VICTORY SPY (Victory Gallop), Tyler Baze, 113; and QUEMAR (NZ) (Haafiz [Ire]), Jose Valdivia Jr., 113

Nice thread to go along with the Showing Up thread. Sounds like he's going to the Mile. Write a letter to Mr. Zito explaining what he needs to do with Commentator. Remember the horses in Krull--he'll set the field on fire in the Mile wire-to-wire. Stud fee goes from 30 to 125k. Lukas got Orientate to stretch to 9 panels on grass. Commentator beat St. Liam(!) at 9. He can hang on at 8, but Aragorn and Gorella will be flying at him! Then again, who can get in front of him in the Sprint? Pure Gold, Gold Storm, Dubai Escapade. Not sure. Point Ashley and Dreaming of Anna big chalks in Juvenile Fillies--wait see what Change Up does in Alcibiades.

Horse for course is great and comes under the rule i used to use when i use to buy the form until i was house bound and that was to draw a line through a horses best race in the form and see if todays race fits the horses style and class.
