My biggest win was $1700 on a $6.00 ticket. I sure wish I could cash one of those $290,000 winners. How much did you have to invest to catch one like that Steve

Not enough to gloat about but I got paid $144.00 on a longshot. Paid $12 to play 6 horses that race.

I lost $16 then $12 betting this day, then this race I bet the 3 longshots - wet fast, Baze 8 post, winner by Dixieland Band/ AP Indy had the 1 post and 7 pound bug weight. Fun win because it was a 5 1/2 instead of a route! Sometimes longshots just beg to be bet, win or lose!LOL!

We used to go to Garden State Park for night racing.
Today it's torn down and will become the "downtown" area for a new city known as Cherry Hill. The land became more valuable than pounding hooves.
I had a hot streak of picking Pick 3's. I hit some for $400.00, One for over $600.00.
One night I had two of three going, and the longest shot left to win.
Thankyou Felix Ortiz, he came through! Just like he did on that longshot at Philly Park yesterday!
The board flashed the price for my $2.00 ticket....$968.00.

I caught a pick 4's at the breeder's Cup when Tisnow nosed out Giant's Causeway in the final leg. Yield $7000. I was a pretty happy camper since my investment was just shy of $100. I have had a couple of nice "signers" $$$ at Tampa Bay Downs and Keeneland when avoiding a vulnerable favorite. Most fun was when I had a $5000 super from Hawthorne split up with my buddies at the bar of our simulcast venue once. I put the ticket together and we had a great half hour of cocktails and high fives!

This may be boring to you, I got a phone call on a fri afternoon,My friend knew I was looking for a horse, This horse was in on a sun and he said I could have the horse for 2 k now OR 5k after the race, I bought him for 2 k..Horse ran that sunday and finished 3rd ...I talked my wife into riding him,He went 5 1/2 furlongs, Couldnt find him with a search warrant, Lisa gets off him and says to me "Run him 2 turns..10 days later at 25-1,Phil Salman tells them he is starting to get away ..She won by 4,Im not a bettor but I did bet 50 that day, He paid 50 bucks, Not only that.. I got the purse and my bet..This guy was given away a pony and works every day at Calder...Was a thrill

Hit a pick 6 this summer at hollywood. i was about $200 up before it started and was determined not to walk out a loser on a pick 6, not a big pick 6 guy..usually to play it how i like it is too much money. but i decided to chuck in $96 dollars playing 3 keys and 4 x 3 x 4 on the other three legs.. i shot the rest into the late pik 4 with 2 keys and a 9 x 5, with some extra money on the favorite in the last race and a horse court rode at 10-1 program.. my key races were like clockwork, very easy, something like $3.60, $6.00, and $9.00 key winners. the other three legs (the races i had multiples were the toughies).. in those i got around a $11, $12, and $18 (that being Court's in the last) horses.. the pick 6 paid around $8800 (big carryover day), and i ended up with like a $5 pick 4 because of Court winning and it payed around $790 for the dollar...overall i won around $12 g's, around $9G's after taxes..truthfully Court made the day for me..
funny day though..i sat at home and my 2 buddies watched each race with me..first couple of races getting the knuckle clash, the next to with us picking up the volume a little and some "high fives.." the last 2 races a drunken roar.. I know the neighbors heard "Hit that son-of-a-bitch Johnny.." and broken furniture.. FUN DAY!!

Can we count a week as a big hit? If so here it is. My wife and I use to be "connected". First word was from a bookie and paid $30.00. Later in the week from another source another paid $20.00. It snowballed from there and we got three in a row with the last coming from the shed row and was a key to the double and paid $32.20. We collected over $1800 on that one alone. To sum it all up we did not cash a pay check for 5 weeks and paid cash for one of them new Ford Mustangs. Have no idea what it would be in todays dollars but this happened many moons ago in 1965. Thanks for the platform for an old geezer Steve.
Last year I played a $1 super straight at TBD 11th race MSW 4y.o.

I forgot about his one, I bought a horse off B Mott at the end of GP a couples of years back, Paid 3k for the horse,Ran him msw on the turf at Calder purse 23k...He won by 5 and payed 12 bucks..Im not a bettor guys but I do win with longshots because Im a small name trainer..my last 5 starts 3 wins..85 bucks 32 bucks 7.00 bucks the fourth start won but was dq"d to second, She went off at 7 to one..
You sound like you like to buy horses privately- a you get a great deal! Are these just ones that have not won in a long time but are fit and need the right race placement? Or do you take some cheapies and heal them up with a layoff?
Maybe as a small trainer you go more for the win than just making the day rate?
Continued success!

Steve: This past Saturday, my friend and I hit the Magna 5 for $3,600+ and we co-selected the picks for the 5 races. We bought four tkts for a total purchase of $240.00. On my own, two years ago at Delaware Park I hit a trifecta that paid almost $2,300. Cost on that bet was $36.00 and it went like this 123/12345/12345. Not the actual winning numbers, just showing how I wheeled my selections.

I won 900 dollars off a straight Tri and straight Exacta. 2 dollars bet.
Off the subject. I won 2500 on a quarter slot machine.

My largest win to date happened at OLD Arlington Park with Phil Georgeff calling the race in a fog so thick he couldn't call them into the turn. Anyone who knows Phills call he always said "Here they come spinning outa the turn" On this day he actually said I don't know. When they crossed the line I saw a blur and was thinking it was my top horse. When the board lit I knew it was cashing a 90,000 tri taking the whole pool

My biggest win was $33,451.50 at Yonkers raceway Aug 15th 1998. I ripped out the page out of the otb program and kept it as a souvenir. I was only 14years old when I won that; now i'm 21, off course that wasn't legal gambling age but I used my dad's automated phone account to bet and make bets for him so I just pressed the keypad buttons to play races, so no need to talk to anyone. That's still the way I bet now thru the phone as I have gotten mighty quick making the bets like that. I wrote down info about the race on the page I kept. It came in 3-7-6 and odds were 40/1-38/1-18/1 only spent $8 in that race.
Edit: Forgot to mention that the $33 grand was for $3 trifecta as that was how much to get a whole tri use to cost at Yonkers back then. I only played it for a $1 so I won like $11,000 but after taxes I only collected $8,000 something. Damn taxes took like close to $3k from me lol.

Tampa Bay Downs Was Taking The National Pick 7 Which Had 7 Stake Races From 7 Major Tracks Around The Country..it Lasted 7 Weeks As It Was'nt Very Popular And The Handle Dropped Off Each Week As Bettors Found Out That Its Tough To Hit A Pick 7
The Third Last Week Sept 24 1994 I Invested $48 Ticket And I Hit It. Paid $133,400 But I Only Had 1/2
Of It For $1...i Hit It In The Sports Gallery And They Told The Management That There Was Only One Ticket To Be Paid Off In The State Of Florida And It Was At Tampa Bay Downs..havent Had A Winner Since...well Almost

I'm a first time poster.
On a Saturday in January 1986, after a heavy night of drinking, I staggered into a local OTB to make a bet.
I placed one $2 wager on the pick six at Aqueduct and proceeded to go to the bar that I frequented the night before for a healer or two.
The races were heard live on the local OTB channel.
I made it through the first 3 races and come to the 4th leg, my horse finished second but Hold All Tickets, a stewards inquiry was lodged against the winner along with a jockey objection.
Low and behold my horse was moved up.
My 7th race horse wins. Now I'm pacing back and forth and my heart is pounding rapidly.
Angel Cordero boots home my 8th race winner and the celebration begins.
I split the pick 6 with 2 other people. My winning was $27,000, $22,500 after taxes etc.
What a great feeling it was!!
I love to see people win and love to read success stories as well.
Good luck to all !!

I see this thread is pretty old, but I just found it today and hell if I'm going to pass up the chance to gloat. October 17 last year I hit a dime super at Remington Park from an OTB for $1776.65. I don't care if people consider this bet the nickel slots of the horse racing industry, I love em. I've connected on a few in the mid-3 figs to beat the tax man too. Biggest one-day hit I had was at Turf Paradise from an OTB on a $1335 tri which I had for $3. I played a dollar box and backed it up with a straight $2 tri for just a shade under $2 grand. I hit 6 signers since 02 which is nothing for a lot of guys but it's pretty sweet for a shlub like me.
hit a Pick3 at Santa Anita a $4.00 bet the first horse $35.00 THE second $9.00 and the 3rd was $40.oo the $1.00 p3 was $1200.00

I've had bigger wins over the years but my very first big score that I'd never forget was on March 2nd. 1970, it was a Monday, big day for racing back then, with no Sunday racing.
let me back up a bit...back to that Saturday, i guess it was feb.28th.
my brother "Butch" gave me a win/place bet on a horse.
I like the horse too & booked the place bet & played it all to win,
...his horse PLACED & paid something like 9.00 ...
the Double hat day was 9 & 9
now on Monday Butch goes to he track with me & a couple of the boys,
...he's mad because i haven't paid him yet.
I play the 7/9 double...I leave the window & go outside near the Finnish line & look at the tote board...the 9 in the first race is 99-1, something CLICKED in my head & I RAN back to the Window & played 9&9 for the double & 9 to win.
...just got the bet in & off they went...
#9 won for fun...paid 126.40, I paid my brother off after the race.
...my very 1st. 100 dollar horse,
but Waite...i still had a live double with the #9,
...ya you guessed it #9 "I'm Surger Pie" running fastest of them all was the call, (by race announcer Jim Hanna)
he paid 11.40 to win & my double paid $1,226.00 for a $2.00 bill
I can't remember the $100 horses name(:
BTW the track was the old Narragansett Park in Rhode Island

AdminNice 9100 win at Laurel, 3990 win at finger lakes, 2800 win at PHL, 5800 win at Big A, been so close to those huge ones in the breeders cup, just won't spend the money to cover all the angles, just a $1.00 bet person. I have the w-2g forms as proof. I have invented that single number system Mr. Beyer writes about in his book.

My biggest hit was a horse called Ritchie's Girl, Mike Luzzi was on the horse for Bruce Levine, this was back in 1999, the horse looked like crap in the daily racing form but I knew that Luzzi was riding hot for Levine so I put 20 win and 20 place on the horse, horse paid 55 for win and like 27.50 for place, I was so happy that day, I still remember screaming after the race to my dad that I was rich, I guess to me that was considered being rich hitting over 700 dollars...

Wheeled Lure on top in exactas, for $50.00 dollars, to every horse but the favorite and second and third choices, when Lure one his first Breeder's Cup race. Payout was $2,500.00 per every $5.00. (When I wheel, I call it an "almost wheel" -- I never wheel on top of the first three favorites: kills the price. In the Lure race, the "field" ran 2nd! That was my biggest score. Do not play serial bets, but focus on single races that I can crush. In the long run, the Pick 6 is a losing proposition.)

One win that was not my biggest, but was, perhaps, one of my biggest surprises ....
On July 4, 1981, I was at Charlestown ... and on a whim, bet a 7/4/1 triple ticket key for $2 .... the 7/4/1 was for July 4, 1981 .... I didn't even know who was running, because it was not one of the races that I would normally bet. Turned out the winner, #7 was a shipper that paid $72 to win... and the triple was $750!

My Biggest win was at the Big A
I had the 9th race triple 3x, it paid $5,685. ($17,055)
I was 18 years old, My grandmother cashed it in for me the next day.
She was 65 years old, so we didn't pay taxs back then at the window.
I also had the 4th place horse in the 3rd spot who lost in a photo, his odds were over 50-1.
Some at the track said the triple would have been over $30,000.
I played $14.00 on that race.

My biggest win was a trifecta on 10/31/04 at Churchill Downs I had a 10-1 over 5-1 and got lucky with a 85-1 running 3rd beating out a 4-5. This does NOT qualify as my biggest win... that is posted elsewhere in this thread .... but it seems to be a good place to post a note.
Those of you who read my meanderings know that almost all of my selections pay $4.00 or less ... because I try to pick horses that ARE going to win.... but occasionally, I catch a fortunate one. And that happened, today.
I had selected ARAPAHOE Race 6 # 3 as a 'very high probability winner' ... bet it at 9/5 .. and it went to 4/1 at postime .... Returned $10.20!! I just love surprises like that! :)

1320. return on a 16.00 investment from one of my rare Pick 4 plays several years back at Sam Houston Park. Rembered the horses having previously run at Lone Star the year before and took a chance with some of the jocks I liked.
However, ever since - I seem to have better luck picking just one horse.
Lucked out when I picked Giacomo when he won the Kentucky Derby not too long ago. Also played the runner-up horse, Closing Arguement who was another big long shot. During that Derby run, I played mostly WPS tickets and made more that way - than exotic combinations. However, had I played the exacta then - would have made 9000.!

My story is the biggest win I could have won had I played it.
A few years back, I got off to a hot start and was up about $100, debating on whether or not to play the Magna pick 5. I came up with a $48 dollar ticket but since it was about half of what I won already, I ultimately decided not to play with. Needless to say, I would have had it, and it paid over $80g. after taxes I'm sure it would have been only worth about $70g, but it just goes to show you that you just never know.bh)

The best or most rewarding play was made last month at Hoosier Park. I played a $1.00 super wheel. 1,7/1,7/1,5,7/3,5,9
the 1 and 7 dead heated fo first, the 5 was 3rd and the 9 forth.
The 1/7/5/9/ payed about $500 and the 7/1/5/9 about $700.
The first and probable the only time I will dead heat on a super.

Though it wasn't my biggest win (can't remember what was, something like a 39 - 1 shot couple years ago), my most recent goodie was
Bernardini's 3rd (4th?) race when he paid $27 something - I had a $20
on his nose. Never get those odds on him again. ;;'

I hit a dead heat exacta once the paid a total of over $350. I only invested a total of $4 too. Had I know, I would have done a $2 box instead and double my returned.
