Maybe I was the last to know but I saw on TV this morning where
Arlington is installing the poly track there.

There has not been much reporting on it and IMHO track owners have been fairly quiet about it; the decision was made shortly after a full exam of the track recently, down to its base, after which they claimed the track was in perfect shape. I wrote and told them in that case their track crew is lousy dealing with any rain at all, as is supported by charts and workout info.
IMO the Il racing board has been pivotal in resolving the breakdown problem. Their breakdowns decreased significantly for awhile after they began sealing the track on a regular basis, called for by myself and I assume others. The rains came again and so did the breakdowns.
As is usual in racing the breakdowns were primarily on the final turn; and theirs involved many horses without previous signs of leg problems, including a first and a second time starter.
I expect a much better record with what I call "rubber track", but I expect rain and freezing cold will have some effect.
