"Jockey Chavez injured on final day of Tropical at Calder meet

Jockey Jorge Chavez was injured after falling off his mount and later taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, Florida on Monday, the final day of the Tropical at Calder meeting.

Chavez, 44, suffered a bloody nose and may have injured his shoulder, but was alert and moving when medical personnel arrived to treat him moments after he fell off Sweet Zeena in the 12th race on Monday's card.

Sweet Zeena took a misstep near the three-eighths pole, causing Chavez to lose his balance and fall from the three-year-old filly, who was unharmed.

Chavez was bidding to tie Manoel Cruz in the jockey standings for the meet. He rode three winners earlier on the card to give him 67 victories for the meet. Cruz finished with 68 wins.

Chavez, the leading rider at Calder and Tropical at Calder in 1988, won the 1999 Eclipse Award for outstanding jockey. "

All I found on Bravo is he was returning Sept 06 from an injuey.

went wire-to-wire in a G2 at Saratoga this summer. The guy's still great (if Pletcher would only share).

Above the Wind loves the Tampa surface and is 7 for 14 here. He also runs well fresh, and his morning drills for this first start since August - including five furlongs in 59.80 and six furlongs in 1:12.40 - indicate the venerable sprinter is ready for a top effort.

Above the Wind's top challenger is Wild Tale, a well-traveled

sprinter who finished second in the Grade 3 Phoenix at Keeneland and was a fast-closing third in the Grade 3 Sport Page at Belmont.

Joe Rocco is named to ride at 116 pounds.

from what i heard the doctors gave joe a swift answer not to ride again. If he does he risks the chance of dying. Wich these jocks do every time they mount up on there next ride. It is just that he has a greater chance because of what he did to his spine. I just don't see this guy retiring. Granted he needs to probably take a year to rehab and gather his thoughts, but i just think he will be back riding some day. I am an avid person who loves going to monmouth race track, being that i only live 10 minutes away. It is a beautiful track to visit and have a good time with your family. Or if you are like me who takes the handicapping game very serious and need to be totally involved in my daily racing form.
