Did anybody else notice how bad Trevor Denman was Saturday? He completely missed Pine Island breaking down in the Distaff and called the wrong horse in the stretch of the Juvenile "and here comes Great Hunter" when it was Street Sense romping up the rail. How can the announcer fail to notice one of the favorites broke down on the backstretch? Wonder if ESPN is considering replacing him as the announcer next year?

I could not believe my ears when he made NO mention of the horse breaking down. I think you attribute the mistakes to CA. racing having nothing but short fields. BRING BACK THE PROFESSIONAL - DURKINgah;

I listened to the replays, and in the replay, there is mention of Pine Island pulling up ... twice, in fact ... during the calls in the race.
And you all are quite right, too, about the differences in calling a race with 14 horses, rather than 5 or 6. I'm just amazed these guys function as well as they do!

he also called Brother Derek still coming on and didn't even mention Premium Tap who was already ahead of Derek, Had no problem saying also Bernie was being used with a 1/2 to go, but failed to mention Lava was doing anything......I missed Durkin :(

I thought I was the only one wondering why Trevor didn't call Pine Island breaking down. I caught what appeared to be a jockey flying off a horse on the corner of the screen. My friend, who is much better at picking up on things of that nature didn't see it either. I wasn't sure what happened at first, so, being that I go to Santa Anita quite a bit, and assume that Trevor calls everything and anything that goes on even before the race even starts, waited to hear him make the call on what happened. As everyone else mentioned, he flat out missed it. Another thing I thought was of "concern", involving Trevor, was at the beginning of the ESPN coverage. Trevor had just introduced himself to the Cable viewers, and the next thing you heard was one of the main announcers( The one with the white hair) make a comment that suggested that he was a bit "sweet" on Trevor. He said something along the lines of Trevor's voice making him "warm" all over. Did anyone else catch that one?
Anyways, perhaps Trevor was a bit rattled after that comment.(I know I would be), so maybe that's what the problem was. I say give him another shot next year and properely screen the ESPN personnal.rofl

:confused: maybe the reason Treavor missed Pine Island breaking down -
all the saddle clothe numbers were the same color?
I hate it when on those "big-event" days - how all the
saddle clothe numbers are the same (blanketey-blank) color!
Do the d---- "traditionalists" who plan these things -
want the bettors to be confused - and thus, losers?
Altho, I'm no Treavor fan, he sure took on a challenge to
try calling his first Breeders with all the same color saddle-
clothes. I thought he did pretty well, despite the traditionalists'
trickery.
I also don't think it is right to confuse the new players
by having those first two races - not really part of the
rest of the real Breeders events. When I went up to the
teller to place my first bet on the first race - the teller
had to verify with me that "it wasn't the third race, was it"?
I said, "No. I did say "Race 1, didn't I"?
He said, "Most actually mean the third race".
Can you believe? I did think the teller was thoughful, tho,
to be sure. I remember times back in my earlier years, when
they hadn't - and I didn't examine my ticket AND LOST!gah;

I have been hearing Trevor since his early days at Santa Anita. In my
humble opinion .. he has stayed too long. Seems as if there is always
something wrong...not exactly right .. maybe. And he has gone to
injecting too many comments... other than the running positions
or a horse making a move. And he does get way too excited when
the heavy favorite is moving strongly. There is more .. but I will stop
now...Powered by Dodge !
