Delighted to see that connections supplemented this horse for the Classic PLUS a rider switch to Prado. Does he have a chance to beat Bernardini?
A slim one, at best. He does, however, have a chance to hit the board at a huge price, and I intend to include him in any exotics I play on the race.
His last race at Turfway was a sham. For anyone who didn't see. Desormeaux went for a non-existent gap with about a half-mile left. He was merely cantering at the time and all but went to his knees after clipping heels with eventual winner Ball Four. The polytrack was very speed favoring, so after that mishap Premium Tap's chances were gone. He bravely stuck to his task and finished a close 5th.
Looking at Bernardini's opposition on Saturday, I have a feeling many of his opponents are over-rated. The Euros are very good horses, but I don't think they are up to this test. Aidan O'Brien will regret not putting GW in the Mile. I have yet to see a Danehill really fire on the dirt. Brilliant turf sire without a doubt. When he gets another Storm Cat close to Giant's Causeway, then he is back in business in the Classic. David Junior is top-class, but this is a much different situation than he has ever faced.
Lava Man is the best in the West, but won't be good enough here.
Several others, with Invasor top of the list, could be heard from, but I look for Premium Tap to continue his improvement as a 4 year old.
His win in the Woodward has been dismissed as sub-standard. That's good for anyone who recognizes that this horse is still improving. His best races, I believe, are still ahead of him and he is a legitimate longshot on Saturday. Should Bernardini have a bad day, who knows?
Well I shouldn't get too carried away..........
Good luck to all on Breeder's Cup Day!!! ::;
