View Full Version : Negative Comments
This is in response to Meatheadfonts and Easyluckyed comments regarding my appreciation of Mark Lowe and his accomplishment. As I stated I have learned something from Mark and from the Morning Glory. Is this website not for being better handicappers and learning from one another. I am not at a point in my life to listen to people who have no openmindedness to learn from others....Handicapping is taking in information and dissecting it to come up with winners. Some people feel it is necessary to destroy information before it can be collected and processed appropriately......How sad..........It's sad to not want to learn from someone elses success....The creator of this website started this forum for us to learn, instead we have created bashing and jealousy......I do not claim to know anymore than the next person, however I do have the desire to learn from others. I appreciate your comments (as negative as they can be) and hope you can introduce yourselves to me at the next Morning Glory......Good luck with your handicap...and dont let the handicapping contest intimidate you..........You have about one hundred other people to beat besides me and Mark Lowe.

In todays racing game, there are the trainers who,"Have" and the trainers who,"have not".Those select trainers are worth $ following on a regular basis,
while the rest, proceed with extreme caution.
New York: Dutrows,Levine,Hushion,Contessa
Gulfstream: Pletcher,
Santa Anita: Mullins,Mitchell,O'neill,Frankel,Canani
Chicago: Catalano
Tampa: Ziadie, Dale Bennett
On this site, members need to read everything that Steve & Longshot Larry
post, its that simple. They are the "haves".
I am not knocking any other member, simply pointing out where our winning
dollars from this site can come from.
There are a group of other members who have some very interesting obser-vations,but again, zero in on the aforementioned pair.
Good Luck to All
And watch out for Rhoda Msrch at the Ca. county fairs! She was busted one year giving atrophine to one of her mules!LOL!

Steve- Looks like the LGM is alive and well. I think there are many ways to look at information provided for Free. I start by looking at information provided by EquiSim and Computrak as I find these 2 assist and fit my style. Contrary to the opinions of some I find information provided by ALL those willing to share their thoughts very beneficial. There are folks here at various levels of expertise on this site from newbie to professional status. My suggestion to those having difficulty finding value I would say You are not looking very hard. My thought would be to work a Track based on your thoughts and compare them to the opinions of others who post here for that track. Look at the races you have the same opinion on and those you have different opinions on. At the end of the day see if you were right or the other person was correct. If it is You who had the better selection Good for You. If the other person had the better selection You might ask for them to share how and why they chose the horse they chose. If you cant find value from opinions of others My opinion is You have missed the Boat. If your handicapping is based on sound principles and looking at the opinions of others indicates your choice is being overlooked I find lots of value in situations such as this. Who better to incorporate in your capping decisions than folks you are competing against for the MONEY? I certainly do not know Mark Lowe but if I had an opportunity to invite him to this site hoping he would share his insight My vote would be YES. I would learn from him also. There would be those who would think he was full of **** and new nothing just as some at another Forum thought Steve was full of **** and new nothing. I am sure Steve will be glad to verify the truth of this statement. Is the other forum better off because of this thinking, they think so, I think not. Try a bit harder and you will find lots of useful info here from many sources. I also suggest we try to assist any way possible to get new folks interested in this sport or it will surely Die and running folks down and suggesting only a few have any thoughts worth being considered is Not the Way to have a positive Impact. Just another point of view.

You're right Rudy. This site shouldn't be overly critical of it's members
and instead, a place to turn to for positive reinforcement. I like the
idea of sharing, learning and growing this sport.
Each of us may have our own "biases" (or own manner in choosing our
horse) but it doesn't have to mean we have to tear the others down.
In the process, we can still see the other players methods and at the
same time grow the sport which is what I think this site is all about. a:

Well! :) I've noticed that my handicapping skills are so very superior to all others on the planet, it's a wonder that I don't OWN the planet.
What I've never been able to figure out, with all my abilities, is how others see races so clearly, that I miss ... and how they hit them, consistently! :)
So.... I have a LOT to learn... and, you know.. .I'm not really choosy as to who my teacher may be! :)
It may be YOU! So, please do NOT withhold information... I need all the help I can get!
***********
Serious: Negative comments almost always take away, not add to. I've never experienced a true gentleman express pleasure over the loss another person incurs, nor the bad decision they may have made, nor the lack of knowledge some folks have.
For example: If someone asks you, "What's a claiming race?" which is easier to say, "You idiot! Don't you know anything?" or... just explain it.
Personal example, if I may.
I was in the USAF ... studying aircraft mechanics. We had gone through fuel systems and hydraulic systems. I could understand how the liquids would go from the tanks to the servos and engines and such, just flowing through the various piping and tubing. The liquids went in the same direction all the time... right?
So, we get to electricity, which is a whole nuther ball game. The instructor was explaining how flipping this switch in the cockpit operated something or other out at the wing tip. I asked, "Do the wires go from the fuselage to the wing tip, or the wing tip to the fuselage?" What I mean to ask, of course, was "which way does the electricity flow?" Which was STILL a dumb question... but I didn't know, and didn't understand.
The instructor made immense fun of me and my ignorance. He then said, "If you are at the fuselage the wires run to the wing tip. If you are at the wing tip, the wires run to the fuselage." That confused me even more. I knew, from his tone, that he was having his fun with this ignornant hillbilly.
So.. knowing me ...(most of you don't!)... I let him have it verbally, with both barrels. I will assure you that few E-1 types have EVER told off a superior the way I lectured him on how a teacher should respond.
Afterward, I was told how I was going to get court-martialed, etc. Put me on the hot seat, so to speak.
Later, I learned that when the instructor was telling the officer in charge what had happened, and what all he wanted to do to me, the officer in charge then lit into the instructor, telling him HIS job was to teach, not to make fun of. His job was to explain things. If the student already knew everything he wouldn't be in the class. And, he told the instructor to apologize to the class for the way the incident was handled.
Now, it is true that the officer also indicated that I had no right to mouth off to a superior, but the point was, quite clearly, NEGATIVE COMMENTS do not help. They only hinder.
Be the cream, folks, be the cream! And you WILL rise to the top!

There have been times when asked (which is rearely)
who my picks were and sometimes I say
and when it did come in, feel good about it -
but there were also times when my picks didn't
and I wound up feeling bad about it.
I think that when other people's money is on the
line - I may not feel all that comfortable telling
the whole world and have the whole weight of
losers on my case. That's why I never under-
stood those professional tip sheet guys. How
they could tout certain horses by asking cash
at the same time
I actually felt bad for Matt Carruthers today on
TVG who hardly hit any of his picks. The pressure
he must have to go through and on TV in front of
God knows, how many people.
I already feel strange about having voted for Sharp
Lisa in this site's Breeder's Distaff poll. However,
the way I find horses I like is through the "contraian
method" similiar to the trainer, Bobby Frankel's
horses who don't always figure on paper. I still
feel pretty confident in my choice of Sharp Lisa
for this Saturday's Breeders Distaff division, tho.
However, when that day comes - I'll also play
another ticket in some kind of box thing. You
know as "insurance".
