I run horses at Turf Paradise and spend alot of time on the back side. When I have a horse running, I am always amazed at the comments from people from TVG or DRF and their reasons for picking my horse or not. They come up with the strangest reasons why my horse has been put into a race. They really don't have a clue. Here is an example. About 6 weeks ago I had a horse claimed for 12,500. A couple of weeks ago they run the horse back at 10,000. He goes off as the favorite. What the new trainer or handicapers don't know is that this horse won't run with a tongue tie. I watched them put in on and knew what the outcome would be. As I said you can't beat inside info.

Since I am not a backsider, I love all insights as to the whys of racing. I'm curious why they put a tohgue tie on- If that barn just does it routinely? Also curious if you will claim it back if dropped again!
Have you ever thought about entering an average claimer or low level ALW in a big handicap or stakes race just to get last place money? Especially on a very slow or a muddy track?
In years past the Turf Paradise website has said they harrowed the track at 3 1/2", then fluffed it or something; Do you happen to know the regular harrow depth now? Thank you!

Over 90% of horses run with tongue ties. It all revolves around breathing for a horse while running. Strange you mention claiming the horse back. I did put a claim on that horse. However I made a tiny mistake on the claim form and thats a no no at Turf Paradise. Needless to say they denied the claim. You have to be careful to dot every I and cross every T. I looked at the condition book today and I believe he will be running in a 12,500 claiming going one mile on the turf on feb 12. I will know for sure tomorrow and I will claim him back. On entering a low lever claimer in a stake race. There is a thing called high weights which is used to determine if your horse will qualify for a race. Also for the most part there is no purse money for last place. I don't know what the harrow depth of the track is right now. I heard they made it deeper after lost in fog broke the track record last year.

Thank you for your prompt answers. It seemed some tracks were paying all runners at times.
I will have to look up "high weights".
In Ca, trainers complained about racehorse injuries and CHRB told tracks to get safer (slower) or put in Polytrack. LITF took GGF's 6f record away from a $10,000 claimer who finished 4th on a less speed favoring GGF track next out!
Years ago I was trying to get 1 longshot per race at GGF- lost every race. The 1st race was a AZ shipper named ____BOB. 25-1 and I had it marked but did not bet it because my brother told me horses from "cheaper" tracks do not win when shipped- of course Bob did win- he had won 33 in a row at Turf Paradise!
