Hey waddaya know, another sicko who likes to pick Penn and Charlie Town, the two weirdest tracks on the east coast. Hey who, I'll throw out my Penn picks for tomorrow (Saturday 2/4) after I try the contest and we'll see how we do. I think you had a cheap tri at Penn last night which is no small feat! You had a few winners at both and a couple exactas at Charlie. I'll try and contribute my losers on these tracks from time to time.
Good luck!

It has been well documented that the jocks at Penn were holding back favorites and they all got busted a few years ago when somebody dimed them out. I figure they're probably more careful now but who knows. I just have a sentimental fondness for the place since that's were my grandparents first started taking me when I was a kid in the early 70's. Still check the results every day but I gotta tell you it is one tough track to beat and I know a lot of guys who won't play it for reasons you state and others. They want to try to goose the purses and draw some better talent when the slots open up this year or next. We'll see. Money is money. You still gotta pick 'em.

I made a killing at PENN some yrs ago by playing horses that shipped in from Maryland. It did'nt matter how bad they looked on paper, they would ship in and win.
just for fun

I am new to the forum and saw that PENN is being discussed. This is my home trace and when I go it is usually for the live racing. I do simulcast on PC at home.
PENN is a very hard track to beat consistently. The word "consistently" being the key word. I do not go to bet alot of money. I go mainly for the ambiance of live racing(i.e. hearing the whips and jockeys as they come down the stretch).
A couple of years ago I hit a nice triple of 3,200.00 but these are hard to hit often. I hit a few with 100.00 to 300.00 payout.
This track has alot of shippers and jockey changes(jockeys come and go) which makes it hard to handicap. Of course the other is that most of the horses are bottom of the barrel.
Even though it is hard to handicap consistently it is fun to make the $1 and $2 wagers and try to hit some nice shots.
I am looking forward to the slots coming in and helping to up the purses. Hopefully things will turn around and PENN will get some better horses and jockeys.
:) :)
Any idea as to what % of non-maidens overall are shippers?
