Interesting study on the improvement effect of lasix on race horses done in Chicago by a stat guy I met this weekend. Using three years of data he said that he is convinced that first time lasix will show an improvement in colts....second time lasix with fillies. That is an angle i used in the last race at Del mar yesterday. The eleven finished second in the race..... after two very indifferent outings with moderate figs previously. This was second time on the juice and she improved significantly. Didn't win...but second is enough for an exotic player. Wonder if anyone has ever heard of this disparity among the two genders {with lasix} for a handicapping angle?

I always heard second-time anything was better than first. Such as second time blinkers. Maybe it takes a horses system more than a race to adjust to the medicine during an adrenaline-filled effort??? your guess is as good as mine. A trainer might be able to weigh in here.

I do not know what salix is ... so... you are correct, in that I don't know what it does!
"Salix"(formally known as Lasix), a diuretic used for the prophylactic treatment of exercise-induced pulmonary hemorrhage (EIPH or "bleeding"), which is believed to work by lowering pulmonary-arterial pressure: Injection for racing = $25-$35 (due to the regulatory paperwork required for race-day treatment). Injection for workouts = $15-$20."

Well, I do know Lasix .... so... if it is now traveling under another name... one wonders why it's still called Lasix on the forms! :)
