Hey newcomer, bluegrass cat is like the Ricky Schroeder of the horse world.. Do you remember "siver spoons." Well, cat is like little Ricky, he was bred from royalty, his caretakers are royalty, and he has every advantage (ON PAPER) you can ask for. But the truth of the matter is he's got alot to prove, HEART for one. If his will isn't there he'll be just another talented horse who makes some money and heads to the Ron Jeremy farm. Since the Derby is such a crapshoot, pick an overachiever or two, follow them... I'd rather have guts and heart with some ability than see the rich kid always win... we love the underdog, right?

What is the negative posting about Bluegrass Cat.?
Advantage? He eats hay and oats just like every other racehorse.
Heart? The horse has won 3 straight races since moving to the Pletcher
Stable, and each time repulsed challenges to pull away in the stretch.
By the way, instead of knocking a potential star, which the sport so badly
needs, why not step up and tell us who is this underdog horse that we
should all be looking and rooting for.
Its so easy to find the negatives.
How about some positive spin here.

I too,am a big fan of Bluegrass Cat,and am looking forward to his 3 year old
debut this Saturday at Tampa.
He is a Gorilla in horseflesh.
You got him at 70-1 for $100 in your future book.
I got him at 50-1 for $200.
Good Luck to you,sir

Bluegrass cat is no question a nice colt with true ability, but the davis will be no cakewalk. He will be facing some solid opposition,Seaside retreat a top 2 year old in canada for mark casse, and Hesanoldsalt from the nick zito barn should supply ample opposition.O NE THINGS FOR CERTAIN TAMPA BAY HAS COME A LONG WAY IN THE STAKES DEPARTMENT.Good luck and good racing, may the horse be with you.

Pletcher knows his way to the winners circle. If this horse doesn't win Sat, doesn't mean he can't be a contender. Many a good horse was beat at Tampa, Precionist, It'salilknownfact, etc., they were nice horses but the track beat them. Training, breeding, ability and heart will prevail, but do not discount the runner ups. Bluegrass Cat may not handle Tampa, but he will be a contender.

So your saying a subpar effort in the davis will keep him on the derby trail?I WOULD THINK THE PLAN IS TO GET A GOOD EFFORT OUT OF HIM IN HIS FIRST START AS A 3 year old.Dont make excuses about the surface or who has been defeated at tampa.IN ORDER for the horse to stay atop the the derby watch list he must overcome adversity and perform to his ability.

Wake up and smell the coffee Ziadierules asmentioned by a fellow handicapper this race is no catwalk.Since this is his 3y.o. debut I gotta take a stand no value, overbet, probably needs a race, prepping for the Tampa Derby......I can see it now "the horse needed a race" Pletcher Johnny V's
comment" the horse got a little tired in the end but should run big next time out".............Ziadie dollars should be on the Zito horse..he's been sending over track record horses all meet long....As far as Canadian horses most of them dont run at TBD... people usually play them based on earnings which to me are overinflated.....by the way whats the US/Canada
"Exchange Rate" now??????????????/

I am counting on guys like you betting against Blue Grass Cat,to keep the
odds above even money.
Pletcher has already pronounced him fit and ready, there will be no excuses.
Yes,this is as talented a 3 year old field as Tampa Bay Downs may have
ever seen, and that includes past TBD Derbys.but this is a special horse, and
his quality will only be upgraded by beating this field.
As for Zito, for each horse that he has brought to Tampa to break a track
record this meet, there has been another one of his trainees who raced like
crap.

i bet u loved the Bulls then switched to the Lakers. U probably love Duke and the Patriots. What else, Roger Federer. Hmm... perhaps USC football. He comes out of the number one barn with the most expensive sire etc... the Derby has an excellent win history of overachievers .. do i need to help you .. Real Quiet cost around what $20 grand, Smarty Jones, Lil E Tee, Funny Cide, Afleet Alex (northern afleet)..these are all horses who came out of small barns or had a great bargain price... I remember Casual Lies costing around $7500, 3rd in the Derby... every year there are bargains running for the roses and certainly on the Derby trail.. the three year old prep events are always a great time for shockers and new stories... Sir Cherokee ring a bell.. probably not.. He wasnt 2/5. He wasnt a billion dollar colt.. I guess you could buy a form, i don't need to be your research hound... Enjoy your CHALK.

This race is not a determining factor weather Bluegrass Cat heads or the derby. This horse has already made himself a contender. All his connections want is a good showing. Do you really think this race is important to win for them? I think not! But others need to win in order to be eligible for the derby. I like R Loyal Man. He has been learning to rate and looks like he responding.

I really can't understand these people who keep attacking a horse because it's well bred, has a good trainer, jockey etc. These kind of horses eat hay and sleep in barns like all other horses. I can understand rooting for the underdog, but to hate a horse just because it's exspensive and has good connections is stupid. All ZRT did was offer his opinion about Bluegrass Cat, that's no reason to attack him or the horse. Anybody who wants to bet on cheap bred, poorly trained, bad ridden horses can do that all they want.I really don't care how much a horse cost, if it's a "blue collar " or "blue blood" horse, so long as it wins for me.

WHO SAID "HATE" ANYTHING. IT JUST GETS A LITTLE OLD.. STATING THE OBVIOUS. PLETCHER IS GOOD, ZIADIE WINS ALOT WITH LEZCANO, REALLY?? GEE THANKS FOR THAT INFO. HELPS ALOT.
If you review the ad, a newcomer is asking about capping and horses.. if you really want to know about the sport and the athletes involved, don't you try to get past the obvious. I guess not.

I SMELLED THAT COFFEE,RIGHT OUTSIDE THE BLUEGRASS CAT WINNERS
CIRCLE,AND I DEPOSITED THE CUP IN THE WASTE BASKET WHERE YOU AND
ZITO PUT YOUR LOSING TICKETS.
THAT WAS A WORKMANLIKE 3 YEAR OLD DEBUT,THE HORSE GOT A LOT OUT
OF THE RACE,AND THE SCREWS WILL BE THAT MUCH TIGHTER WHEN
HE RETURNS IN A MONTH FOR THE TAMPA BAY DERBY.
USING "THE CAT" WITH EVERY OTHER HORSE WHEELED FOR SECOND,PROVED
A VERY PROFITABLE MOVE.

Gentlemen, do not forget Holy Bull, "they got to my horse", then the trainer clammed up, and then the Point Given defeat and that horrible ride by Stevens, and that monster bet on Monarchos. Do not get suckered into the chalk, a win on a short price only hurts your bottom line, Bluegrass Cat will win only if he runs a number less than 10.00

Loved reading the many insights about the Derby and such. How bout this... Would it not be great for the sport for a horse of good/great connections win the Derby? to see a well laid plan come together? Is not greatness in racing about breeding? How bout the Triple? Guts almost got it done in the past couple. Now how bout this one? maybe bluegrass Cat has the correct formula. I,too love the underdog and really started to be interested in racing after Smarty Jones and Afleet Alex. JUst a thought but I'd really love to see a Triple Crown Winner soon. For the sake of the sport among many other reasons. Maybe breeding/blue blood connections is the answer.

Bluegrass Cat, is scheduled to make his second start as a three-year-old in the track’s $250,000 Grade III Tampa Bay Derby, one of four stakes on the 13-race card on March 18th. I'm looking forward to seeing him in person!

I was not that impressed with his effort in the Sam Davis. He was all out to hold off a 60-1 shot. But, that can be excused since it was his first race as a 3yo. I would love to take a stand against him Saturday since he'll be 1-5, but I don't know if there are going to be any decent contenders in the race.

I am sure Pletcher will have him cranked up 100% this Saturday. He has a trip over the track and he will be tough to beat at 2/5?? I will probably use him 1st and 2nd in the supers, and underneath in the other gimmicks for value...

Anybody know the bloodlines on this horse?? Any relation to Tabasco Cat??

Mister Sanderson
04-18-2006, 01:45 PM
... Bluegrass Cat, at this time, is very average as a 3 yo. He has been surpassed by speed types, closers, and all sorts in his age group. I hope Ziadierulestampa took his lumps betting him to death. It makes me happy to think that. Nonetheless, I think its time to turn the page on this horse's chances to win a Derby or other. Pinning your hopes and blind faith on late 2yo's and early 3yo's will burn you just about every time. Their stardom can be very fleeting.

Anybody know the bloodlines on this horse?? Any relation to Tabasco Cat??

Went to a cool website and found a few names to mention in the bloodlines, Storm Cat, Storm bird, AP INDY, Secretariat (in most horse's now days) and seattle slew. I only went back 4 gens.
