So every now and then me and the boys will go to the Offtack betting to spend the afternoon drinking and betting.
I have read one book on the subject but has not helped much.

Right now I will play a trifecta for $6, boxed with the favorites. I am wining 1 in every 14-16 bets. When I do win it is only for about $38-$68.

So I will bet $90 and I might when $50 for the afternoon.

I would like to understand perfecta better and when should I consider that bet.

How can I increase my wins? I am sure nobody has every asked that question.....lol

Thanks

Welcome Uppercut,

You have found the right site to increase your winnings at the Track. We are a new forum so bear with us as we get used to sharing ideas. In a short time myself, as many others, will be posting winning methods. Perhaps you may even change your style after you are here awhile. For an example, to be a long term and profitable winner you will always have to search for value. It is called an overlay in the industry.

-----

You and your friends are at your betting site. You decide that today you will only play winners..and..you insist on value...

You and friends love the 5 horse to win. Just Love it. Morning Line odds were 3-1 and you are about to place your bet. To your horror you see that everyone and their Forums love the #5 also and now has toteboard odds of 1-9!!! This situation is where you just watch the races if you are new to the game. That bet has NO value. Latter on you may see ways to use the horse, but not now. That horse has NO VALUE.

This is the best beginner lesson I know. Look for value. You want to find horses that you like and their odds are higher at post time than what you have figured they should be.
-------

Uppercut I have stated this in a simple way to get you thinking about value. Stick around, ask questions, and bookmark (or download out tool bar) the TW site. You will soon see ways to increase your chances at this sport.

You did not say which book you read, but here is some you can check out:
Beat the Track, Ada Koleck ( next time out %);
Recreation handicapping, Steve Davidowitz (situational);
Racehorse Training, Preston Burch (1950's)(Standard training methods);
150 Blue Ribbon Systems (2 booklets); Gambler's book club (angles and $);
Online search subjects- (include the word "handicapping"): articles; free picks, PP's;

(NOTE: My handicapping methods utilize a great deal of research, probabilties, and value betting).

welcome, newcomer..
the best advice i could give you is to start by watching tvg.. they explain the pick 4 wheels alot which is a popular bet and sort of give you their best value plays in the sequence. im not gonna bs you, if you really want to learn, there is alot to learn.. reading a form and understanding all the information in it is a task. for example, the "class" of a horse is very important and understanding class can be tricky.. an allowance race (alw) is normally a step above a claiming race (clm). but this can be misleading... in a match race, i would bet a $50,000 open claimer coming from Belmont any day over a conditioned allowance horse hailing from Penn National... so this involves many factors such as understanding the quality of competition at the different tracks... and so on and so on... if the book route isnt doing it for you... just get a form, study it, watch tvg... and slowly learn yourself.. the more you learn, the more interesting the sport becomes.... its my passion, but it's hard as hell to find a job in it.... i'm fightin the blue blood spoonfeds here in KY... good luck though, have fun!
