Greetings,
I saw a thread on here not long ago about exacta boxing (1) of the (2)highest favorite odds with (1) the next (2) highest odd horses. The theory being that only one of the top two fav's will come in with one of the next two fav's......

Can whomever posted that thread please direct me in the right direction?

I think I might want to play a few races this way, but I don't know how the "verbage" of the bet goes once I get to the window.

Thanks, Dave

The top 3 horses that are being bet, more times than not will produce the race winner of the three.
With that in mind, key on the top 3 with the next three being bet.
Example: A-2/1 B-3/1 C-4/1 D-5/1 E-6/1 F-7/1

the exacta play would be ABC/DEF

Caught a $166 exacta at Laurel Saturday using this method.

Good luck!!

Yes, that is the correct thread, thank you. I thought the betting strategy was AB/CD instead though, my mistake, (1) of the top (2) with the (1) of the second (2)....not (1) of the top (3) with (1) of the next (3).

I looked at Belmont for Sunday, 5-14, and it looks like using A/B with C/D in yesterdays racing would have hit a few extacta's. Your not going to break the bank, but it is interesting to say the least......

How do I bet this $1.00 extacta? What is the verbage to get a A or B with C or D in a dollar exacta box?

Thanks again. Dave

Dave,

Could you clarify the original post for me? I dont understand what the poster is saying.

Is he saying to combine 2 of the top 3 with one of the next 3?

Thanks for your help

Hey Vol,,,,,I wish I could help....but Bernie is the one that posted the original thread. I was wrong in assuming what his play was.

I have to rebound you back to the original thread to see Bernie's play.

I just was looking at "what do I say to the lady in the window to play A or B to win + C or D to place"

"I would like a $1 exacta A,B with C,D". The A or B must come in first, if you need it boxed; "I would like a $1 exacta box ABCD". Any 2 to come in first and second.

Is that what you needed?

----------------

Placing a bet this way as you state, would this bet achieve this:

1) A $4.00 bet?
2) A Winning ticket combination of ONE of the FOLLOWING: A/C, A/D, B/C or B/D?

Thanks, Dave

the key to any multiple horse single race wager is to avoid the underlays and play the upside. Many exacta and trifecta players are a bit lazy sometimes when they considering their strategy. ..."boxing" top choices giving equal weight to every combination will doom you in the long run if you play races regularly. Strive to key rather than box...particularly if you like an entry that is being offered at higher odds than you think his chances truly are. The takeout juice will grind you into the dirt if you just box top choices. NEVER put the favorite on the top with the second and third choice in the two hole unless you have singled a 16 -1 or higher horse third. If you have to play the chaulk on top...you must have a longer shot beat both of those 2nd and 3rd choices to get adequate compensation for your risk and to overcome the hidden 18-25% rake. Now many times the favorite in the 2 hole produces an exacta overlay. If so...you must play it in a higher unit denomination. I am amazed when good players disdain an odds horse in the win pool but then pair them up with a second or third chaulk in the exacta.

Yes, Dave. That is what you will pay for this ticket and what combo to win.

BTW, I agree with Trifecta Mark about using favorites in exotics. Any exacta payoff of less than $30 just doesn't interest me.
