Is there any day that I should avoid going to a live race track? I'm not too far from Tampa and I would like to go on a Mon. or Tues. I've only been to 1 other thoroughbred track so experience is limited. What should one do? Check the horses up close and WHAT? I'm excited and nervous at the same time. It would be nice to have some good picks in order to make it a winning experience. My betting/playing on horses so far has been a losing experience. So I need some good picks(and how to bet/play those picks). I've been pretty much a $2 player. Need to know best places to watch and what to look for in a live race horse. Hope this is not too elementary for you all ,but how else can I learn? Been betting the bushes here in Green Cove Springs to try and find a mentor. Greyhounds seem to be the choice here. Horse players always seem to be aloof here and do not like to be bothered or helpful. I don't know, maybe it's me. Any help and advice will be appreciated. Going by myself so it will be spooky not knowing the ropes per sey.

Here is what I believe help influence a racehorse's ablilities and the race outcome to a degree-
Energy level and re-cooperation from one race to the next;
Track surface and speed and how the horse handles it;
Pace and the trip;
The trainer and regularity of the training schedule for that horse;
The Jockey' ability to get out of the gate, maneuver, and know energy levels.
__________
To make an itelligent bet, you have to assess-
the contenders' potential in the current race and actual value (what would the payoff have to be in order to make a sensible bet?).
__________
Outside influence- Drugs, fixes, stiffs, trainer intent)- You have to decide how much you believe and want to figure those things into your handicapping.

If your looking for live racing Tampa only has a few more racing days this year. Yes they will be open Mondays and Tuesdays the rest of this month, but I believe they close for the summer right after the Kentucy Derby. Sorry but you really can't be taught to handicap on a blog. There are some nice (REAL) books (not ebooks) that you can buy cheap on ebay. Maybe somebody here will suggest some titles.
Good Luck
