The Poly Track Horses Are Rats On The Dirt..
The First 5 Horses In The Derby Today Who Finished 1,2,3,4,5 Were All "dirt" Horses..& Nobody Can Claim Different.santa Anita Will Be In Trouble With The Upcoming Breeders Cup If They Dont Put In A Dirt Track And Hurry UP Doing So..

On Another Note: I Told Many People BEFORE the race That I Was Surprised That Stutts Entered Smo0th Air To Run Today..anytime One Of My Head Even Spiked A Short Fever I Always Walked Them For 30 Days & Started Over.. & Yes I Told Steve Before The Race & The Owner Of Tampa Bay Downs..

For the record, Santa Anita already has decided to keep the artificial track. I'm suprised more people didn't hear about the controversial move that happened about 2 weeks ago. It was decided during an "invite only" meeting in which the only trainers/ owners invited were those that were in favor of the artificial surface.

As far far as the Derby's influence on this, Colonel John did manage to run run 6th, so perhaps it was a more a matter of him being one of 19 "dogs" in the 20 horse field. I have to admit, I was looking forward to cashing a nice win ticket ( I had Tale of Ekati and Denis of Cork on the nose), but perhaps Big Brown is the real deal. That being said, I am going to spend a lot of time trying to beat him in the Belmont. If he does win the Triple Crown, then I commend the horse for being that special despite the fact that he will probably already have his breeding stall waiting for him within seconds of winning the Belmont.

Nobody hit the hi-five, but congratulations on those who hit the $60k super. ::; bc(

7 $22.00 wins featured stakes race. 7 f on the dirt off of only career starts both being off of poly wins at woodbine.

this list could go on and on. It's a myth that synthetic horses can't win on dirt. I would tend to believe that horses improve their stamina on synthetic since most of synthetic races involve sitting off of slower paces and making quick and powerful finishing moves.

Agreed.
Zenyatta, Tiago, and Gayego at the recent Oaklawn meeting are examples. One bad KY Derby for synthetic-prepped horses does not mean they won't win it in future. Just a bad day for horses who are not as good as Big Brown in the first place.

I'm actually surprised that no one hit the pick six at CD on Saturday. Other than two long shots(Intangaroo was playable), the rest was pretty much chalk! Not that I could have ever hit it with the $ I bring to the table, but I figured at least one high roller would have caught that.

Yes I think STAMINA is the word to use when talking
about horses going from poly to dirt.
Think what it could do to horse racing if all 2 yos
ran only on poly then at the start of there 3 yo career go to dirt.

anytime you have a horse that runs against graded horses for the first time comes out the 12 hole sets crazy fractions kills the rabbits and destroys the late kickers and is still running hard !!!!!!!!you have a freak!!!!!!best horse Ive ever seen run.......goes 5 wide around the cd course and wins for fun!!!!!!!!!!!only time bb was asked to run was in the middle of the stretch!!!!!only horse that can beat bb is bb!!!!!!!!

Although I personally didn't throw out Big Brown (see my Derby R9-12 thread) of my Derby tickets, I certainly don't blame those for leaving him out. Only one horse can win, and those were certainly factors leading to Big Brown possibly losing (other than Dutrow's prediction). The 20 hole, other speeds to run around, and the certainty of at least a 3 or 4 wide trip at a minimal we're valid enough reasons to take a shot against. Also, a new and longer distance and the proximity to the crowd where he may be more exposed to becoming distracted were a possiblity.

He just happened to be the best horse in the race regarless of most of those factors that actually happened anyway. But for those who tossed him for stated reasons, I get it and certainly wouldn't say you were out of bounds on your idea.

It's like baseball. If you get a hit 3 out of 10 times, you're pretty good.

Mister Sanderson. You are stating all of these polytrack winners, but you are in denial that every top polytracker ran a DUD on Saturday in the DERBY. You think it is by chance than not one was in the top 5 or that the best separate from the rest on the the dirt.

P.S. I thought you hated this website

I get what you're doing, but its not for me. This website is great, but there were some things I didn't like about individuals on here. Why do I need to explain myself to you or anyone else? I decided some of the things I could learn and some of the people I talk to on here are a reason to ignore some of the people I don't like.

PS.. you are relating one race to a generality about a statement that was made about synthetic racers in general.. Its not apples to apples.. Yes no one in the Derby top 5 was a synthetic based horse... so what? it really is beside the point

I wanted to know if you went to another blog-type horse site and the knowledge wasn't as in depth as this. I am not sure what I was doing, I was responding to your post about polytrack and got know answer. IT IS A SHAME WE MAY NOT SEE CURLIN run in the "CLASSIC" because of some rubber, made of old tires surface!

yes that would be unfortunate. Its seems obvious now the Bluegrass wasn't an abhoration after all. Pyro, never moved or fired in the Derby either.

I also realize that due to a heavy influence on here of certain individuals, members and readers may be inclined to be persuaded to dislike synthetic. I'm not saying that is right or wrong, I just doubt that many on here would hear anything other than what they've already been told to process as fact.

My guess would be that Curlin would run fine on synthetic, grass, or anything else because he is top notch class.

I got into the horse racing game because my grandfather loved it. Than when I started to date my wife my future father-in-law loved horse racing and that was the tie him and I have. I guess you are saying that I have no opinion and you think I am just restating what other posts on this site and I am a robot. What about the fun of looking what horses like the slop, or speed horses vs. closers. IF you watchd CD this weekend you realized that you need to be close to the front to win and closers were not closing and it made handicapping fun. I for one thought VISIONAIRE would run big and posted it on this site a few times. But after watching the races unfold I realized that if you weren't close to the front you were not going to win. Polytrack does not give you that!!!

no, i completely understand what you're saying. I think handicapping a synthetic race is more of a guessing game. that is another reason i thought colonel john ran pretty good. he got a terrible start shuffled way back early, and actually made a very bold wide move to reach close contention until the big guy ran away. no, i'm sure you have your opinion and it is genuine.

this is true. conversely, how will you know that he DID? He got 1st in the Oaks with a perfect trip, and 2nd in the Derby with a pretty darn good trip too. Also, how do you know he is a 2nd rate jockey? He is young, but Jones seems like a pretty knowledgable horseman, and I trust who he puts on the horse can do the job. I'm sorry but I know the folks who owned some Jones horses such as Wildcat Bettie Bee etc and I never heard anything negative other than he wants total control with the horse. I just don't see why blame has to be placed on anyone or anything.

Some on here choose to believe Jones may have put an injured horse in the race or didn't want to run, I choose not to. Maybe I'm naive, but I would need more than heresay to believe otherwise. Just imo.

NOTE: I know with the health problems of Rags after the Belmont and the tragic demise of Eight Belles some might think this kind of a thing is more likely to happen, but I dont. Fillies run against the boys in the country on a daily basis (still a small %) and overseas as well. I chose to believe that both ran the races of their lives, may have overextended themselves, and gone to hard. If she were my horse, she would've been in the Oaks. But I want blame her DEATH on that. I just can't take it that far.
